Personal Development and Extra-Curricular (LME)

Enrichment, Personal Development & Extra-Curricular Opportunities

At Lift Witham Sixth Form we believe that students are so much more than a set of exam grades. At our Sixth Form, our mission is to develop the whole person and ensure that, whether you progress to university, an apprenticeship, employment or another pathway, you leave us equipped with the knowledge, confidence and transferable skills to embrace the opportunities that come your way.

Our Personal Development (PD) and LME (Leadership, Mentoring and Enrichment) programme is an important part of Sixth Form life. Students have one hour each week on their timetable dedicated to a combination of personal development and LME, supported by our Sixth Form team.

The Personal Development programme covers statutory elements of education while also preparing students with the practical knowledge and life skills they need for the wider world. Topics include personal finance and financial responsibility, relationships, physical and mental health, staying safe, preparing for adulthood and the workplace, alongside many other areas that support students to become confident, independent young adults.

Alongside this, LME provides students with opportunities to develop their leadership, mentoring and wider skills through meaningful experiences. Students have supported younger students as reading buddies, helped with charity events, supported lessons in lower school and local primary schools, worked as teaching assistants, and established clubs such as debate clubs for younger students. Others have completed online courses to develop their knowledge in areas linked to their interests, future careers or university applications.

Students can also use their LME time to complete additional qualifications and courses, including opportunities such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and finance-related courses, which can provide valuable additional experience and, where applicable, contribute additional UCAS points. We also provide opportunities to attend trips, university visits, careers events and subject-related experiences, helping students to broaden their horizons and make informed decisions about their next steps.

We want every student to leave our Sixth Form with more than their academic qualifications. Through LME and extra-curricular opportunities, students can discover new interests, develop their confidence, take on responsibility, build relationships and develop the wider skills that will help them to thrive in their future.
