Transition tasks

Moving from Year 11 into Year 12 is an exciting step and marks an important change in the way you learn. The transition from GCSE (Level 2) to Level 3 study, whether you are studying A-level or vocational subjects, brings increased independence, greater academic challenge and new expectations. Our transition work is designed to help you prepare for this change and ensure you are ready to make a strong start to your Sixth Form studies.

On this page, you will find transition tasks for every subject we offer. These activities are shared with students during our Sixth Form Induction Day and are also available here for all prospective students to download and complete before joining us. Completing the work will help you to refresh key knowledge from your GCSE studies, begin exploring new concepts and develop the independent study skills needed for Level 3 learning.

Following enrolment, all students will receive the transition tasks again as they prepare to start with us. The work will then be incorporated into your studies during the first term, helping your teachers to build on the knowledge and skills you have developed and identify areas where additional support may be needed.

Transition work is not just about completing a set of tasks over the summer; it is about preparing yourself for the next stage of your education. We encourage all prospective students to take the time to complete the work carefully, ask questions where needed and use it as an opportunity to begin thinking like a Level 3 student.

Transition is also important when moving from Year 12 into Year 13. Students will be given summer and transition work to complete at the end of Year 12 added to their google classroom. This will help them to consolidate their learning, prepare for Year 13 content and return ready to make a strong start to their final year.
